Serena Williams

Serena Williams fans are waiting to see what will become of this talented young player’s career. While she has racked up a number of Grand Slam titles, it has been some time since she has been considered a serious competitor. Serena Williams is a powerful, fast player, who relies on fast footwork slightly more than her taller, stronger sister Venus Williams. Her absence from the top seeds has been a disappointing circumstance for Serena Williams fans and has caused sportswriters to speculate on the end of her career.

Serena Williams has been plagued by injuries that have interrupted her training and weakened her performance in competition. She denies the rumors that she has lost her interest in tennis, stressing that she needs time to recover from her injuries before training. In particular, a chronic knee injury seems poised to undermine any training she could do now.

Her talent and commitment to the game of tennis have driven her to more than twenty-five singles titles, including seven Grand Slam titles, and more than ten doubles titles including an Olympic Gold. Given that Serena Williams was born September 26, 1981, it seems too early to declare the end for this talented player. While her recent performance has not been spectacular compared to years past, she consistently accomplishes what many players work their entire careers to.

While some sports pundits my doubt and criticize Serena Williams, her sponsors and endorsement partners know better, and have continued to back Serena through her recovery. She enjoys lucrative contracts with Estée Lauder, McDonalds, Nike, Puma and Wilson. She has made numerous television appearances in the last several years, including The Simpsons. She also starred in a reality TV series with her older sister Venus. She reached tennis greatness at an early age, completing the Serena Slam at age 21 (having won all four Grand Slam tournaments).
