Sean “Diddy” Combs is a long way from home in his current role as a powerful record executive and media mogul, popular MC, and last man standing at all the best parties. Diddy (formerly Puff Daddy) was born in 1970, on the mean streets of Harlem.

Diddy has always been ambitious, and has a skill for spotting valuable connections and ways to create opportunity where there was none before. He had to work double duty as a paper delivery boy, but despite his busy earning schedule was bright enough to find his way into college. While there, he would use the first of what would be many important connections to land a position within Uptown Records.

No mere product of nepotism, Diddy worked hard, proved his worth, and was quickly promoted to a position in artist recruitment that carried a lot of responsibility for the future of the company. Diddy mastered his duties in no time, and set his sights even higher. The suits at Uptown didn’t like having a young, talented hotshot on their tail, and soon Diddy was looking for a new job.

Fortunately, he had overseen some major albums, including Mary J. Blige’s classic “What’s the 411?” which made her nationally famous. It was shortly after leaving Uptown that Diddy would begin a long and profitable partnership with Notorious B.I.G. B.I.G. would prove to be another valuable connection for Diddy, helping him secure talent for his new enterprise.

As an MC, Diddy has shown a creative flair for samples, transforming popular riffs and songs into his own work. He has collaborated with everyone from David Bowie to Jimmy Page, and scored numerous hits. His magic fingers have twiddled the knobs for virtuosi performers such as Mariah Carey and Aretha Franklin.

As an influential executive, he has lent credence to controversial artists such as Lil’ Kim and launched the career of the massively popular Mase. A feud with Tupac and a romance with J. Lo behind him, Diddy has shown himself to be a survivor and continues to forge ahead, recording, producing and managing the talent for great music. In recent years he has acquired a reputation for being a proficient fashion designer.
